Glorious 12th

Red Grouse (Lagopus lagopus scoticus). Today, the Glorious 12th starts the shooting season of red grouse. I think it should be more suitably called the Inglorious 12th. A time when moorland owners charge £1000s to the privileged and wealthy who find enjoyment in blasting as many as possible to death. Few get eaten, many rot before they get to the game dealers.
It is a beautiful bird, truly wild, a joy to come across when walking the heather, such a shame that some delight to kill gratuitously.
