Samye-Ling Temple

Samye-Ling Temple Main Shrine. Sakyamuni Buddha surrounded by 1000 Buddha images, Boddhisattvas, The Karma Kagyu Lineage, Karmapas, illuminated by a shaft of sunlight.

Samye-Ling Temple Shrine room.

On the North West corner of the Temple stands the Mahakala Shrine House. A special protector shrine. Prayers are recited there continuously to ward off and transform obstacles to the practice of the Buddhist teachings. Similar protector shrines are found in Tibet alongside great temples. Visitors are requested not to approach this building or knock on the door as there is a nun there who is in permanent retreat. For scores of years I have travelled frequently to Samye-Ling Tibetan Centre to benefit from teachings and also to assist in building the Temple and the manufacture of craft-work, ritual, symbolic and decorative, latterly from my home in North Fife.
